No more short cuts to NICEIC registration.

A little light Saturday evening reading.

I had a link to the news report by email, any thoughts?

  • My first thought was “as if!”.
  • When you have enough Serfs pulling the Gravy Train to keep the desk bound sufficiently rewarded, you can then afford to be a little more picky in your choice of who you let in to wear the Yoke.
  • To quote: -
“For many years now, there have been calls from contractors and industry to tighten entry criteria, and today’s announcement does just that.

“Moving forward, we will continue to focus on qualifications, experience, competence and behaviours as we assess our contractors, ensuring NICEIC and ELECSA registrants remain at the forefront of the industry, protecting consumers against the dangers of substandard electrical installations”

I have suspected for many years that there is a lowering of standards, one of the main reasons is the appointment of electrical supervisors, who pay lip service and the assessment procedure in itself; that should be ad hoc from a submitted list of work. all electricians should be qualified and insured. I think that profits and a criteria of numbers of registrants are driving the industry down.
