Videos of EICRs on Youtube

I am interested in comments from anyone on the youtube videos, there are several purporting to show EICR procedures. As most know I am currently researching this, and am collecting data.

  • One of the the things you have to remember is that not all electricians are old enough to have installed domestic electrical installations without RCD protection, as I am.

It was 2008 when most of the requirements for RCD protection in domestic installations were introduced, thirteen years ago, so most electricians aged thirty or under have never installed domestic installations without RCD protection, so they do not approach the EICR with the view that “It was okay in the 1990’s, so it must be okay now” what they see is an obsolete installation that does not comply the current requirements.

As the EICR requires the inspector, such as the guys from Artisan who are all a lot younger than us being in their twenties and thirties, to compare the installation with the current requirements of BS7671 they are completely correct in believing what they see, it is an obsolete installation that does not comply the current requirements, the only question really is if it is dangerous and how to determine the risks along with the appropriate codes, which is something they should have been taught whilst attending their 18th Edition courses.

I watched a couple of videos by the other guy, I don’t know if I can face watching another, at least the Artisan videos are watchable even if I raise an eyebrow occasionally.
