400v 3P Disboard Distance from Belfast sink

Hello all,

Just had a sprinkler valve set incorrectly installed too far to the right on site that prevents a sink being installed to the right of the sprinkler valveset. As such, the solution would be to install the sink to the left of the valveset but this now puts the sink within the proximity of a 400v 3P disboard. Does anyone know the minimum distance that is required to be between the two? We are considering installing a partition to ensure safety however I would like to know what the regulations actually require. Any assistance would be appreciated as i predominantly have a mechanical background. Thanks in advance!

Here’s the little beauty in North Wales, I assume it got wet and the right hand RCD failed, so someone replaced the Wylex RCD with the Contactum RCD, then that failed and everything was moved onto the left hand RCD away from the drips.

Recommendation being replace the kitchen work top and refurbish the consumer unit with new devices or relocate and replace the consumer unit.

There is definitely not a second digit to the IP rating code.

  • But it complies with the regulations,  because there is nothing in the regs book to say it can't be there,  indeed I have seen consumer units and fuse boards in the cupboard under the sink.

That shows exactly why you should not dress the circuit tails so neatly that you cannot move them around later. ?

  • I would like someone to explain why 300mm makes any difference as opposed to 200mm or 1 metre? All are clearly within range! Your picture shows what Andy, and where is the source of water or whatever? Perhaps this is hidden under the worktop, did you observe water entering the CU somewhere?

    Really?!!!!

I just took a typical 3ph DB and looked at specification, IP 30.

    :

    Wylex ones are BOD

Wylex don't seem to think so - IP3X according to this https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/DataSheets/Wylex/WylexTech.pdf (page labelled 40).

Thinking about it the left hand RCD had failed as well and I replaced it, that’s why it has a grey toggle switch like the new B40 MCB.

There was also VIR cables and a lighting circuit without a CPC.

I see some pretty dire electrical installations, but that one was really dire, an obsolete installation with a water damaged consumer unit and failed RCDs.
