Cooker Hood Problem.

Today a customer wanted me to fit a new SIA model CGH 60SS 60cm curved glass cooker extractor hood. Out with the old and in with the new. Easy eh?

No. The new hood came with a 6 inch dia. spigot and flexi ducting. The old hood was only a 5 inch model.

Also the new hood's chimney did not fit properly. You know the type, a two part sharp edged stainless steel assembly that hides the air ducting and cables. The illustration in the instructions showed the chimney upside down. I had to fit the assembly upside down to make it fit, as it has to locate into three channels on the top of the curved glass hood.

Be warned, installation instructions can be wrong and cause much confusion.

  • You should try looking at M-B parts diagrams. I am waiting for an air sensor to arrive for Mrs P's car. Finding it was a devil of a job until I realised that the diagram was for a LHD car. A mirror was helpful. ??

  • Cooker hoods are best avoided unless the chimney fits without a problem. I learnt that many years ago.

Personally I hate them. They normally are situated at just the right height to bash your head on when observing cooking pots on the hob.

  • Only if they've been installed by an idiot Zoom!

Grumpy mate. The instructions today  said that the minimum height must be 650mm above the hob. I have found many positioned at about that height, so there must be many idiots about. If sited higher they may lose efficiency, and allow pongs to travel about the kitchen. The most dangerous seem to be those with sharp 90 degree stainless steel corners, but the glass ones are still lethal.
