1 MVA Tx cables

Hello,

On a project were a 1 MVA transformer is being installed, the cables from the transformer to the main LV panel are sized as 4x4x1C 240mm2 + 2x1C 240mm2 cpc.

UKPN advised that the transformer is only capable of receiving maximum 2x300mm2 single cables per phase.

Has anyone faced a similar situation?

Based on preliminary calculations it seems that the 2x300 per phase are not enough.

Your thoughts on this would be welcomed.

  • The way ive managed to get around this in the past, is ask for the tails to be on a ladder in the trench and also spaced 2DE to remove the grouping factor. BS 7671 doesnt seem to offer a good solution for TX tail sizing and this is the best ive come up with. Various IDNOs ive worked with usually offer to size the tails, and this is usually always lower than what i can come up with?

Is the trench to be sanded as you can usually get a bit more due to the lower resistivity.
