1 MVA Tx cables

Hello,

On a project were a 1 MVA transformer is being installed, the cables from the transformer to the main LV panel are sized as 4x4x1C 240mm2 + 2x1C 240mm2 cpc.

UKPN advised that the transformer is only capable of receiving maximum 2x300mm2 single cables per phase.

Has anyone faced a similar situation?

Based on preliminary calculations it seems that the 2x300 per phase are not enough.

Your thoughts on this would be welcomed.

  • A standard DNO transformer only has provision for two lugs per phase. You cannot back-to-back them to get more cables, as you don’t have the phase-to-phase clearance. You can get transformers with extended bushings to take more lugs, but that is not a standard offering. I agree with broadgage, that we would usually use 300mm2 copper single core cables, with aluminium wire armour.

    Regards,

    Alan.
