Smoke detection in Open Plan Kitchens

Hi all,

Just wanted to get your thoughts on smoke detectors in Open plan kitchens/lounges that form part of the escape route in an L1 multi-occupancy building.

As you have to get through the kitchen to escape to me this needs to be a smoke detector or multi to try limit false alarms.

Thanks

Ordinary radio active smoke alarms in my lounge diner often alarm when I burn the toast in the adjacent open plan kitchen. The optical type are better at discriminating against burnt toast and genuine fires. Too many false alarms will create the situation of “crying wolf” and that is bad. I have a heat alarm in my kitchen.
