French interconnector

I just had a little look at gridwatch site  and I see the French interconector is back at 2GW  or just shy of so everyone relax power emergency over

  • Are you sure that that is not IFA working at half power (1 MW) plus IFA2 (another 1 MW)?

  • Drax PowerDrax - biomass unitsBiomass (wood pellets; sunflower/oat husk pellets)Bioenergy2640.02013Yorkshire and Humber

Dad what is “Bioenergy” and how does it differ from “Conventional Steam”? Do they have animals on small treadmill generator wheels that eat the  husks?

  • Oh sorry I thought that there was only1GW  in total not 2 circuits of 1GW each  maybe not time to put the candles away yet

  • Just to add that we're probably a little less dependent on the French interconnector than we used to be - since we now have a 1GW one to Holland (BritNed), a 1GW to Belgium (Nemo) and a 1.4GW on to Norway (NSL) (although that one seems to be limited to half power at the moment).
