£2000 mains conditioning unit fails to protect electrical equipment.

    Dynamic transient current delivery, or available short circuit current, are what we call PSSC by another name.

    Well designed electronics does not care as we have large capacitors in the power supply…

    Like to buy some snake oil as well as a £8999 pound mains lead ?

    Sounds to me like the problem was a broken supply N - so hardly surprising that “surge protection” equipment didn't protect it.

    Presumably, people who can afford these things are not completely uneducated?

    Does the unit actually increase the risk of damage by increasing the PSCC at the appliance?

    Normally decreasing cable sizes reduces the risk of damage to equipment, but connecting your equipment with 6 mm leads removes a level of protection?
