Car charger points

Hi All

I'm getting enquiries about installing car charger points, even from people with no electric car.  Is this some kind of “grant gravy train” or “green tokens”.  I'm retired now, but if there is easy money in it, then it could be an easy side line to temp me back and get me off the sofa.

Thanks

Stephen

OZEV will fund up to 75% of the cost of a smart AC charger. See

  • There used to be grants available to anyone.  Now you need to actually have an EV to qualify.

  • There was  a small window, 2 years until quite recently where installers (or, more likely, their employer) could make £750 in a day. That has now gone, apart from the most gullible people who will pay anything without question.

Some Car Manufacturers are offering a deal where they fit an EV charger for £500 when you buy an EV. The chargers themselves are £350+. An Independent just could not compete with that.

The Government Grants are still available, but, will be downgraded next April. It is currently available up to £350. However, the Installer takes on the risk of the Grant, the Installer gives a discount of up to £350 off the bill, then claims it back from the Government body responsible. All of the paperwork has to be in order to receive the grant. If the Customer has lied, and has already claimed a grant for that car, then the Installer does not receive the grant. And it takes months to get the money from the Government. You also need to be OZEV/OLEV? registered, as well as being a member of a Part P notification body to notify the new circuit.

I registered, but didn't bother going any further, as it just wasn't worth it.

  • Do you want to “invest“ part of your pension pot lending money to people, so you can install EV chargers for them to charge their new new cars on a promise you will get paid sometime next year?
