Auto tap changers

Hi all I've recently been reading that sometimes DNOs  deliberately put 132 and 33 Kv transformers on the wrong tapping  to deliberately reduce the voltage on the network to help reduce the load a bit does this happen much? I knew they did it in the early 70s when there was power shortages but I can't believe they still do it now.

  • they certainly do in the USA, regularly by all accounts. Its discussed in detail in a document about the New York blackouts one summer a few years ago.

our 11k4/400v transformer is on the wrong tapping to give us 230v rather than varying up to 264v
