PAT Testing: Training and Certifcation

Hi All

Firstly, I would like to say Happy New Year and hope that you are safe and well.

I run a charity and one of our objectives is to provide IT technician traineeships to those from disadvantaged backgrounds, aged 16 to 30.

Whilst I can cover the device refurb etc. I lack knowledge of PAT testing. I have found training companies but at £200/250 per head, it's out of our scope for now.

I am looking for help to understand the standards and steps around PAT test training and certification so that we can include this in the traineeship.  I have started to reach out to equipment manufacturers but again I lack the knowledge of what is needed.

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

  • The IET have a book on Portable appliance testing which is usually regarded as the go-to text on the subject.  It does have a slightly unexpected if technically correct title -  something like the in-service-inspection-and-testing-of-electrical-appliances or something like that - if Graham's around soon I'm sure he can supply the details.
