BS 7671 18th Edition AMD 2

The 18th Edition AMD 2 was signed off by the Chairman of JPEL 64 on Monday. So it can now go to the printers for publication on the 28th March.

The IET have issued a press release which gives some detail of the changes.

This can be found here. https://www.theiet.org/media/press-releases/press-releases-2022/24-january-2022-iet-and-bsi-publish-amendment-2-2022-to-bs-76712018-iet-wiring-regulations/

  • John, thank you for the heads-up.

I shall be particularly interested in "method for determining the requirement to provide overvoltage protection".

  • The signing off by the Great Leader of a new version of the Wiring Regulations is carried out in an ancient and secret ceremony in the Throne Room of Savoy Place. The Head Scribe conveys the new document written with quill pens, in Latin on velum, by the scribes in the basement of Savoy Place.  After the secret ceremony the State Trumpeters sound a fanfare from the roof of the building and the anointed document is conveyed under escort to the secret printers some where below ground in a far off place. At least that is what I was told as the ceremony is most secret. I did hear that the document is signed with Michael Faraday's own original Biro so it must be true.

  • Useful, we now know who is specifically responsible for any errors or spelling mistakes! The Latin translation may well have been quite difficult, Romans knew little of the words electricity, arc, or even insulation. Resistance (electrical) was right out of scope, and the units must have been interesting being presumably in cubits and pennyweights.

  • vero nihil verius ..

ah yes, using veroboard is a bit rough.

Sic transit gloria mundeum, as they say,

and she (Gloria) really should have taken those anti-nausea tablets,  a transit van is not the best way to travel if you are feeling delicate.

  • I hope that there are measures already in place to monitor the effectiveness or otherwise of these AFDD things.

I know! I know! I am hoping in vain and that really, it is all about the money.

Just sit back and watch them claim vindication for the introduction of these infernal things because of the forthcoming lower incident rates, when in reality it will be because electricity prices are rising, and people will be cutting back not only upon amounts used, but also frequency of use too.

I shall be making good use of the 'Departures' box to aid my customers in being able to afford the stuff which really matters, such as the fitting of RCDs where there are none present.

Welcome to the world of the £2000 consumer unit, and that's without the labour added.

  • ah yes, using veroboard is a bit rough

Blimey, that takes me back a few decades! I am surprised to see that it is still available.

  • Going to be interesting to see what they class as "higher risk residential buildings"

I'm guessing that blocks of flats is what its alluding to. They struggle to give any data about their effectiveness in countries where they are commonly fitted, so I doubt it will be very forthcoming in this country either

  • Defined in the Building Safety Bill as " high-rise residential buildings, care homes and hospitals which are 18 metres or more in height, or at least seven storeys."

    regards
