Dimming track lighting GU10

Hi all,

Looking at a job that involves dimming 25 GU10 track lights on a single circuit track. I’m not worried about dimmer load as they are only 5w per GU10 equating to 150watts total. The client has requested a rotary dimmer but also presence detection, I don’t think this is a problem as I’ll take a feed to the PIR first then to the dimmer to control the lights from there, turning into an almost absence detection system, where the lights can be manually turned off.

My question is dimming a single circuit track, the GU10 lamps selected will be triac Dimmable and I suppose there’s no electronics in the track just a busbar system so nothings jumping out at me. Anyone done something similar before?

thanks in advance

  • That should be OK, but I wonder if they realise the PIR will be useless if the dimmer is turned off? I suggest at least one light without going through the dimmer? Do make sure that these are an unusual kind of lamp, most types need negative edge dimming (IGBT type not triac type.).
