CONSIDERING IET MEMBERSHIP OR YOU ARE ALREADY A MEMBER

Once again I need you help please?

If you have not thought about being a member, or you are thing about being a member of the IET or you are an existing member of the IET what benefits would you want from the IET? Is what is on offer at the moment meeting your needs or not attractive to you.

I wear a number of IET hats and in one role I am looking at improving membership from the installation industry which is not that good in comparison to the size of the industry.

The IET do a lot of good stuff but I am convinced that it is not widely known about. For example this forum is funded and supported as part of the IETs charitable commitment. Also the free webinars we have been doing (Next one on the 5th April).

So rather than me saying I know "whats good for you" I want to hear your views?

Thanks

JP

  • When I worked for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, there was a huge drive to get everyone signed up to the IET. I went through the process, got my EngTech accreditation and continued with membership for the next few years until I left the FCO and British Council after that.

I personally didn't feel I got any benefit from the membership, and at the time only continued with it so I could get some letters after my name on my business cards!

I don't think I would get any benefit from signing up again. This forum has been good over the years, but no different technically in my opinion to other electricians forums. I would say that the IET forums are not filled with forum jargon and emojis, nor the occasionally gatekeeping found in other forums.

I have recently enquired to the IET via their technical@iet address, however this has not been replied to, leaving me in limbo with the CPS I am applying to.

  • I think that I.E.T. staff are all on holiday, on strike or working from home and communication is suffering. I have had NO response to two separate letters sent about my membership renewal.

  • Good Afternoon - I have contacted you directly using both email addresses that we hold on your membership account for you regarding your query.

I can see that we received your renewal cheque in March this year however, unfortunately, your accompanying request and subsequent letter appear not to have reached our team for which I apologise.

We are able to offer both printed and PDF copies of your membership certificate – please can you let me know if you have a preference or if you would like both versions?

Please can you also confirm the email address and/or home address you would like to be used for the replacement certificates - if you do not wish to supply this information via the forum please send an email to postmaster@theiet.org and I will pick it up from there.

    Kind Regards

    Clare

  • My request for a membership certificate was made on the renewal form with my cheque. It was written in large letters in blood so could not be easily missed.
