CONSIDERING IET MEMBERSHIP OR YOU ARE ALREADY A MEMBER

Once again I need you help please?

If you have not thought about being a member, or you are thing about being a member of the IET or you are an existing member of the IET what benefits would you want from the IET? Is what is on offer at the moment meeting your needs or not attractive to you.

I wear a number of IET hats and in one role I am looking at improving membership from the installation industry which is not that good in comparison to the size of the industry.

The IET do a lot of good stuff but I am convinced that it is not widely known about. For example this forum is funded and supported as part of the IETs charitable commitment. Also the free webinars we have been doing (Next one on the 5th April).

So rather than me saying I know "whats good for you" I want to hear your views?

Thanks

JP

  • John,

I have been a member for around 15 years and happily part with the annual membership fee. However, I doubt that  I would be as keen without this forum. There is much I have access to within the IET family but the forum is, for me at least, the gateway to it.

Come to think of it, I would be equally happy to part with the fee for the forum only. I don’t wish to be effusive, but apart from playing  an important part in my professional life, £180 per year is small beer for access to expert opinions from people like, MapJ, GK, AJ, your good self and the many others who contribute to this forum. I particularly applaud the energy of Zoomup and the persistence of Sparkingchip.

If the IET could do more, it might consider sending out private detectives to find out why previous doyen contributors like OMS have dropped off the radar.

  • There's a pint of Old Incontinence  in for you behind the bar at the Slug and Cowgirl Lyle. Cheers.

  • We are all just ships that pass in the night. There were a few that were very, knowledgeable contributors, keen to step in and share their knowledge without any apparent sense of oneupmanship; there still is but it wouldn't be Kosher to name them.

  • I have had two occasions that I can remember,  where I have asked for help or information from the I.E.T. On both occasions I have been ignored. That is rude and bad.

Recently I have renewed my membership and asked for a new membership certificate. I may have to show it to others to prove membership. It has not arrived. Again I have been ignored.

I am not impressed, infact I feel insulted.

  • Hi Zoomup, I've passed your comment along to our Membership team but if you want to call them Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm BST, excluding Bank Holidays, the number is +44 (0)1438 765678

  • Thanks. I requested a new membership certificate when I sent my cheque, also I have written again about this issue, but that was just before Easter so a delay may have occurred with that second letter.

  • Still no membership cert. after two letters.

  • It has happened again, a reply slipped in before posts from over a week ago.

There’s absolutely no rhyme or reason to this forum.

  • Still no membership certificate received. This is just too bad. A real and total disrespect to a member.
