Preference on integral sub vs external sub

hi all,

just wondering which everyone’s preference is for large building which require their own DNO substation is and the pros and cons of placing inside opposed to having an external substation

I have only ever done integral substations, but can see the downside of having an external sub as needing drainage in the trench to route the cabling.

What is the general preference

Thanks

As well as fire though, there's normally a need to consider explosions from substations - and I can't help thinking it might be a lot easier to have substation within is own simple remote 'sacrificial' enclosure rather than having to guide the blast to the outside while retaining the structural integrity of the main building.

  • Hi Andy, thats a good point. I suppose my main issue with having an external substation is sizing the transformer tails, ive posted a thread on this before, and concluded that the trench needed a GRP mesh lid to allow the cables to breathe properly to have any chance of fitting in the TX ACB, doesnt feel quite right doing that outside however.
