John, have you got the correct number there? BS 8900 concerns itself with sustainable development.

I suspect its' BS 8300 that was meant.

That's handy as now with a short extension lead I can balance my phone charger on the edge of the bath tub.

AJ, I am sure that is correct, but be aware that BS ISO 8300 is concerned with nuclear fuel!!!

Building Regs, part M. Guidance note para 2.30 stipulates 300 mm from the corner of a room, which is to allow wheelchair users to reach the socket (or switch).

I am not sure that this applies to normal dwellings as opposed to those specially adapted, or built for physically disabled folk.

It all makes sense to me. I work with a couple of wheel chair users, one of whom does consultancy work on this sort of thing. His advice included (for able-bodied younger folk who are planning for the future) to install noggins in suitable places in case you need rails, etc. in the bathroom. Would you have thought of that?

Sorry all that is me guessing the BS from memory rather than looking it up. It is of course BS 8300  Design of building for use by disabled people. It is often specified for houses and flats on the basis we are all going to be disabled one day.
