Shunt Coil.

Has anyone ever used the term "Shunt Coil" relating to a three phase motor starter contactor coil?

Does the above come with a 415 Volt coil as standard?

    To me the 'shunt' coil is in parallel with the load and voltage operated - like the coil in a shunt trip.. The alternative would be a series coil, operated by the load current. 

    A stop start box would normally include a holding  a coil that went in parallel with the load, or at least any 2 phases of it.  this also gives you a no-volt release action, but I see that is translated from the German,  and I'd be a bit cautious of assuming the translation is good,  - if you can view the original that may be better if you can find German data, I can have a crack at it if you like.

    Trotzdem, I'd expect a 380V coil in something of that age from back when German mains were 220 phase to null.

    Thanks Mike. I have never referred to a motor starter coil as a "shunt coil." My customer obtained two new motor starters from Norwich for a broken down machine. The original was rated at 4.0 Amps to 6.3 Amps. (Adjustable). The new ones supplied to him were upon closer inspection rated 0.4 Amps to 0.63 Amps. (Adjustable).

    When he returned the wrong starters the same supplier asked him if he wanted a new starter that had an under-Voltage coil or a shunt coil.

    They seem a bit clueless.
