WAR IN UKRAINE NEW CONSUMER UNIT REQUIRED

A friend of the family and their next door neighbor are hosting Ukrainian families under the government scheme.

One of the government conditions is to have a satisfactory EICR along with other conditions like window stays for upstairs windows as the families have children. Both houses have failed an I&T as they need 2 new consumers units., I of course am suspicious. They are being fitted today.

For my part If any one is going to house Ukrainians under the government scheme, in Essex, I would do a free EICR as my small contribution. Perhaps others might want to join me in offering this service for free?

    No I cannot. I was told this by my sister as our family friend and their neighbor had to meet these requirements EICR and window stays before they could welcome these  desperate people in to their homes. I have no doubt in what I was told was truthful.

    I did not want to disappear down a rabbet hole on the merits of EICRs and the persons doing them. I was rather hoping that people would find it in their hearts and say I want to help and I am will do the EICR for free and maybe what remedial work needs doing as my personal contribution  to helping these desperate people.

    Thanks for the reply John, it seems odd to me that a BS7671 EICR is a condition of personally inviting guests to reside in a private dwelling.

    Well no I disagree. Safety checks (not just in electrics) could save quite a bit of potential hazards so the underlying idea is commendable, like Sparking says there are some pretty poor installs out there and these people are not staying for just a day or two like Aunty Mabel might do once in a blue moon
