WAR IN UKRAINE NEW CONSUMER UNIT REQUIRED

A friend of the family and their next door neighbor are hosting Ukrainian families under the government scheme.

One of the government conditions is to have a satisfactory EICR along with other conditions like window stays for upstairs windows as the families have children. Both houses have failed an I&T as they need 2 new consumers units., I of course am suspicious. They are being fitted today.

For my part If any one is going to house Ukrainians under the government scheme, in Essex, I would do a free EICR as my small contribution. Perhaps others might want to join me in offering this service for free?

    I consider that EICRs are not a tick box exercise, I also consider that the general condition of electrical installations in this country is very low.

    Hence I would assume that there will be some repairs required, when I was doing Housing Association EICRs we always allowed a day allowing time for the EICR then carrying out minor repairs such as replacing broken fittings and lighting pendants.

    The idea of doing EICRs free for hosts of Ukraine refugees is admirable, but don’t be surprised about what you find when you start poking about with peoples electrical installations and allow enough time to ensure the EICR is satisfactory by carrying out some repairs, because as with the Housing Associations a unsatisfactory EICR is neither use nor ornament.
