Second-hand goods & BS1363 Plug top wiring instructions

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute state that for second-hand electrical goods:

"You must provide clear wiring instructions for the plug if it is of the rewirable kind, even if you have fitted it yourself (for example, manufacturer's wiring card fitted over the pins)."

Can anyone tell me if this is guidance from a code of practice or from a regulation? Elsewhere it's stated as a legal requirement.

Parents
  • My advice would be to ask your Local Authority Trading Standards Dept about this, or search it out on-line.

  • Yes in spite of the CTSI training TS officers and being responsible for the guides on the Business Companion website as you say it defers to the local trading standards for more guidance and ultimately 'Only the courts can give an authoritative interpretation of the law.'
