8 Pin Bulgin plugs and sockets.

I have been servicing some old N.J.D. 4 channel disco lighting controllers. They use a Bulgin 8 pin socket. The sockets have female contacts that have a slight sideways movement in their housing. I presume that this aids easy plug insertion and allows for slight manufacturing tolerances. The pins are rated at only 6 Amps. So pins 7 and 8 are joined together in the controller at the socket for the neutral. As the link is hard soldered with wire, the pins are then made immoveable and lack the slight sideways movement. I have not seen any damage or problems with this linking so far, but I imagine if all the socket contacts were to be made solid there might be.
