PIR for pump control

Hi all,

I’ve setup for a pump (300w) to be switched on/off via a PIR or similar device for a fountain, there’s a separate PIR that activates the in-ground lights, is a PIR suitable for switching an inductive load i.e. the motor in the pump? Is there a motor rated motion sensor / PIR available at 230v ? Any suggestions gratefully appreciated!

  • Some PIRs are rated for inductive loads like large discharge lamps, and might tolerate a small pump. I would be inclined to use a standard and cheap PIR that operates the pump via a relay.

  • Thanks, yeah a relay could be the simplest option!
