Prosumer Insurance

While sat through the CEF panto at Chelmsford yesterday, alot of talk a turning homeowners into generators with battery backup,  one thought came forth, and in the light of the recent potters bar bus fire, how will this affect my buildings and contents cover, currently a whopping £400 pa, could we be adding another zero to that in the panic to net zero in eight years time.

  • Laptop chargers and phone chargers are a large part of the 'chargers' figure. They tend to get left plugged in without a load and still switched on, and there are some pretty poor 'knock-off' designs that are veritable death traps.  example1  example 2 But even for a good one, being covered by piles of clothes or news paper or whatever can be a compounding factor.

    Part of yesterday's job was to fit a Bio Bidet. 

    I have never tried one, trying a  customers out seems like taking functional testing a step too far. However I have never met anyone who regrets buying one.

  • Back on topic, most PV inverters are in an inaccessible location in a loft. 

  • What do you call inaccessible?  I have a loft ladder, and the section of loft around the inverter (and battery) is boarded.

  • Inaccessible loft as in climbing through the trusses and/ or no walkway.
