BS 951 Earth Clamp

What, in your opinion, is the purpose of the nut pointed to below?

  • In BS 7671:2018+A2:2022, it is no longer a requirement for the label used to identify the connection to comply with BS 951 ... because other forms of label were often used, particularly at earth bars and other equipment. In fact, the requirement is now the other way around, and permission is granted to deviate from the standards for instructions and signs by using the label supplied with a BS 951 clamp.

    Ref Regulations 514.9.2 and 514.13.1

  • Graham, I think the "Do Not Remove" part on any label should be omitted because it seem as if, by convention, it is an instruction to plumbing types to remove the connection Wink

  • That would be an interesting discussion, because the ' - DO NOT REMOVE' part been in the 'Regs since before I was born, even though, for example, the wording in the 14th Edition was slightly different: 'Safety Electrical Earth - Do Not Remove'.

The current wording 'SAFETY ELECTRICAL CONNECTION - DO NOT REMOVE' was brought in in the 15th Ed

Having said that just because we've always done it isn't an excuse for continuing to do so!
