Going back slightly to AJJs plumber leaving the dangling pipe with earth clamp on it, and thinking of the 'like for like' thread. Not only did the plumber comply with the Law (GSIUR, assuming notification to the responsible person was given), he/she did not do work they probably felt they were not competent, or indeed insured, to do. Usually when gas pipes near the meter are replaced, bigger diameter pipes are installed, for better flow rates. What if the gas installer mucked up the straightening of the band, cross threaded something etc, and it came loose? Even fitting a replacement one has problems involved like "what is this stupid nut doing there?", "What does that say on the flimsy label?", "Where do I connect the cable?", "Do I need to test anything and provide a MWEIC?" Etc.

So perhaps understandable it was left dangling, pics taken and client notified in writing. Not saying I would do this though.
