A Good Reason to have a Local Hob Isolator.

This is not the link that I was looking for but it will do to illustrate the need for local hob electrical isolation. O.K. you may claim that the child lock can be used, but that is a faff and is often not used.

  • A better design would incorporate a small battery in order that the clock may keep time when the mains power is turned off. A single lithium cell should last the life of the appliance.

  • it amazes me how some people switch on/off their shower electric switch every time they use it cos it makes it safer or it stops that little light from wasting electric. They think it must be done because why there is the ceiling switch or plateswitch just outside the bathroom.  am not aware of many following the same procedure with a cooker switch though

  • I think that hiding a cooker/hob isolator away at the back of a kitchen cupboard stuffed with all kinds of rubbish is never a good idea.

  • I fitted an electric shower recently and the instructions stated that the isolator should be switched off when not in use

My Mum always switched off the cooker when not in use, and unplugged the telly at night. She would also stand in the bathroom during thunderstorms Slight smile

  • This hob also should have an electrical isolating switch.

  • With electricity at 40p a kW or so from October, the 1 watt used in standby/clock mode if not switched off at the isolator works out at £3.50 a year.

Add in all the other standby devices using 1 watt and it starts to cost serious amounts from Autumn.
