A smear of Vaseline?

Opened up a 32A rotary isolator (IP65) mounted on an outside wall and found traces of condensation within and corroded terminals/cable ends; not helped by the use of steel screws and I suspect the cage.

I will be replacing the isolator, but how to prevent or lessen corrosion?

A good smear of Vaseline before tightening the terminals comes to mind, but is that a good idea?  I guess Vaseline is an insulator (Google seems to suggest it is and it isn't), but when used during the connection of a car starter battery, any reduction in surface contact must be minimal since I have never seen signs of overheating.

If not Vaseline, how about Copperslip?

I think I may have a solution to your problem of aan aerial in a restricted space.

I visited an amateur radio rally on Sunday in Bletchley. On the way in I saw a whip aerial sticking above everything else in the field. I saw this close up and spoke to the stallholder who was using it to demonstrate a transceiver he was selling and it was not for sale. He uses it for QRP working in the same field used by his club. It was a 17m telescopic whip that collapses to about 800mm mounted on a caravan TV dish collapsible tripod usually with a few 1/4 radials. He tunes it by sliding the aerial joints in and out. Co-ax from the stand to the rig and he says he can be up and running in about 10 mins from parking his car to being on the air. From the field he says he once worked Australia but had to increase the power form 5 to 10W.

I have ordered up the 17m stainless steel whip and a tripod via eBay which should be with me this week. I will let you know how I get on.
