Are there any remote control modules or sockets which can be controlled by a Windows pc (Win7) wifi or wired network?

I have two projects on the go, one to switch on/off a printer elsewhere in the house, similarly some other remote gear. There is a network switch nearby and likely also some wifi signal. The other is to control garden lighting (no wired network) but in range of wifi.

Seems that I can do this using my smartphone, but would, especially for the printer and other gear, prefer to have an icon on the pc screen. I do not have, nor do I want Alexa or simlar.

    Clive take a look at Mihome from Energenie that is what i use pc or mobile.

    Clive like most pc programmes these days its online you setup an account at mihome4u.co.uk/ and then control your switches and sockets from a web page.

    Thanks for that.  Its was just that when I look at the adverts for mihome energenie and others, there is always mention of smart-phone apps, alexa but nothing for a windows running pc.  I will dig a bit deeper now, because mihome looks ideal for what I want.

    Do realise that if your 'turn on the light tin the outside loo' command has to be routed by their web page and there us no direct link, then if you lose broadband, you lose the lights. Similarly you lose control  if the supplier goes bust or has their webserver hacked. Fine for things of low risk, maybe less so in some cases.

    Ah.........

    Yes, that could be a problem.  Similar to British Gas discontinuing the security side of Hive  during the next couple of years.

    What I really want is remote control of a device (switch on/off) using my wired network or wifi network, using my pc (Win7). I don't really want my switch on/off of a remote printer (its an OKI C5200n which lives upstairs) to be a test of a transatlantic internet connection!!!

    The Energenie EG-PM2-LAN looks as if it will do what I want, but unfortunately not very good reviews on Amazon and type F sockets.

    Ideally something like a TP-Link Tapo Smart Plug would be good. They mention Alexa and Google Home and also Android and iOS - but whether they too use the internet as opposed to my network, I don't know.
