Is Something Wrong? Wiring in Pictures.

This image sent in by Mr. A. Grimmer of Slaughterhouse Gardens, Hope Estate, Bletchley shows  interesting connections.

What does the team think?

  • possible LN reversal absence of earth sleeve, poor cable prep so in some places pinched jacket, in others singles without containment, oh and the JB lid is missing.

  • Blinkin ek! Give the rest a chance Mike. But you did not mention that the cable sheath colours clash!

Oh, and Mike we may have to deduct points here as Carol says that you may have started to answer before you pressed your buzzer, and also did not mention the grub screw tightness. Bad luck. But you still win the crate of Old Fungus Bletchley Brown Ale.

  • I saw a complete kichen wired like that, the chap had wired it all himself and the RCD was tripping, I declined the work and left without asking for payment for the callout preferring to take long strides towards my van.

  • There are a few places in my area with this sort of stuff, and it may well  work for years, but it is not confidence inspiring, if it is on a ring I'd be wondering about the 4 wire joint. However looking at the depth of the grubs, is it actually 2,5mm or thinner? More context required to decide if just ugly or really dangerous. Mentally a

    'further investigation needed' and

' here be dragons - trust nothing in this place to be quite as it seems '

  • Wise words.

  • The junction box wired in 2.5mm2 T&E and 1.5mm2 flex supplied two double 13 Amp. sockets inside, and one reverse polarity connected outdoor double socket, and a faulty pond pump. All now run through a switch fused connection unit with the faulty pond pump disconnected. The grub screw issue was a red haddock.

  • Beware Red Haddocks, they can be a vexation. Also Red Herons . For they too have their story

  • A Stanley Unwinism!

  • so in some places pinched jacket

You never cease to amaze me Mike. How on earth can you tell from such limited information that Mr Grimmer has purloined items of clothing on his premises? microfibres? or perhaps perusal of court appearances in the Times supplement?

  • Very good. See annotated below, just for you.
