Oh, and guess which way supplies the 9.6kW electric shower?

Your comment is true Andy, but not particularly relevant is it? I quite like Zoomys last post, another DNO that doesn't care what they connect up when they fit a smart meter! As an aside, my smart meter display has stopped working. I rang to get it fixed and the supplier said that they were in short supply, probably because lots are breaking! So much for the whole smart meter thing! I have very little faith in the whole concept, as we were not told about the variable pricing thing earlier. Without the display one has zero idea what the charges are!
Note the stains in the base of the fuse board.
Originally the bottom half of the fuse board was the off-peak with two fuse ways.
The house had warm air heating with a single huge storage heater positioned centrally with the warm air ducts running out of it.
This was replaced with three storage heaters hence the second fuse board, but the original still supplies the immersion heater.
Being on a E11 tariff a single immersion heater os enough, because there's a daytime boost. That tariff is no longer available to new customers and if they moved off it they would possibly need a new hot water cylinder or at least some controls on the existing to make it dual-tariff.
It's not dangerous, but it's of its time with lots of potential issues.
Old Wylex fuse boards are like Pandora's box, Hesiod reported that curiosity led her to open a container left in the care of her husband, thus releasing physical and emotional curses upon mankind.
