Is This Compliant?

Oh, and guess which way supplies the 9.6kW electric shower?

Z.

  • Circuit six on the left, the furthest away from the main switch, mainly because I am guessing it was the last circuit installed.

My assumptions also include it is a repurposed E7 off-peak fuse board that originally supplied storage heaters and an immersion heater.

  • well without the cover it does not meet the latest regs for IP rating. It is also missing the milky plastic snap on caps that go over the incoming terminal screws

I have retro-fitted a few of those live in the past and it always  needed a slight psych up moment first.
Also it may be that there is no upfront RCD or perhaps there is one in the meter tails.

The use of a 15A (blue spots) holder for 30A fusewire is naughty, as the pins are a bit thin - but there is usually loads in hand on the old brass holders, so if its not looking charred  I'd not worry too much.. What has happened to the wooden back though ?  - it seems too small for the number of fuse carriers.

There is a shortage of earth sleeves  but as mentioned elsewhere on this forum that could be C3 or C2...
not great, with the covers on probably not imediate danger. Not to current standards though.

  • Are the shields (bases) also marked with the unconventional ratings? If not I don't see how ordinary persons are meant to be able to put the right carrier back into the right slot if they ever remove two or more at a time. Not in the sprit of 533.1.2.2 at all, although perhaps doesn't contravene the actual words.

The more I read 533.1.2.2 the odder is seems - can I really just get away with writing the rating on the fuse link and no-where else? And without labels I can allow fuse links of the wrong rating, provided that the if the correct rating is used it can't have the wrong fusing factor?

      - Andy.

  • One fuse carrier, number three from the main switch, might be a bit cooked. Those dymo embossed labels have a built in temperature sensor, when overheated they gradually become un-embossed and the lettering fades away.

  • The wooden base is correct, it is just the camera distortion that makes it appear a little undersize.

Nobody has mentioned the single insulated tails yet! The plastic covers were present on the main terminals but I removed them prior to taking the photo.

I just love the double screw termianls. So secure. And all brass screws as well.

    Z.

  • I assumed the tails are 16 mm twin and earth cable.

  • Nobody has mentioned the single insulated tails yet!

Not a problem inside the enclosure any more than the circuit live conductors.

  • "I just love the double screw termianls. So secure. And all brass screws as well."

    Ditto Ditto

  • But Chris the single insulated tails exit the enclosure to visit the main switch/isolator.

  • That carrier fitted with 30 Amp fuse wire probably supplied the 9.6kW electric shower.
