BS7671 and BS3858 - Blue sleeving on a live conductor in a multipolar cable, in order to use it as neutral

In a multipolar cable (black, brown, grey and CPC), i need to apply a blue sleeving on the grey conductor, at its terminations, and use it as neutral

Is doing so compliant to the regulations (BS3858 and BS7671)? And if so, which sentence or point of the regulations specifies it?

  • Yes. I like to think in the "old" colours Red/Yellow/Blue so Red was perm  L, Yellow (Sleeved Red) was SW L and Blue was N (should have been sleeved Black but many did not bother and feigned justification from Blue being a N colour for flexes at the time (Nuff said on that thought!).

So Brown/Black/Grey treat as you would RYB and sleeve the Black in Brown sleeve and the Grey in Blue sleeve and Bob`s your Aunty Fannies Husband
