Dual-tariff voltage operated earth leakage circuit breaker.

Not the clearest of photos, a dual-tariff TT earthed installation with two fuse boards, one for each tariff installed over forty years ago.

The lives for the fuse boards both run through the VOELCB with the 24/7 live running through the right hand side and the off-peak live through the left hand side, the neutrals go straight back from the fuse boards to the Henly block and meters.

I suppose it will work as the original installer intended?

  • There was a moment when I thought I’ll do an insulation test and if the installation is sound I will swap the VOELCB for a 30 mA RCD.

Then I realised that I would not be doing that!

  • I'm sure you meant a pair of RCDs didn't you ;-)

It works as it is only looking for fault currents raising the CPC voltage. An RCD won't, but you see that now
