Motorized MCCB - Trip Position

I hear that the motorized MCCBs which have UV release or shunt trip do not move to "Trip" position on acting of UV release or shunt trip, It just moves to "Open" Position.
Only on overcurrent faults, it moves to "Trip" position. Is it correct? Any opinions.

  • Depends on model.

Certainly some makers designs of shunt trip operate the contacts without throwing the lever to the 'tripped' position. However some only have two clear positions, on and tripped. The only sure-fire way is to look at the datasheet and or ask the makers,
It is also true of ordinary MCBs, MK used to do ones that had a mid position so you could distinguished tripped from switched off, others Hagar, Schneider, for example just had the two states.
