AFDDs in medical locations

AFDDS are not required in Groups 1 and 2 medical locations and may be employed in Group 0 situations subject to risk assessment. Why the written get out clause specifically for medical situations? Was there someone on JPEL 64 minding the coppers for the NHS, or is there a more technical aspect to this that I am missing?

  • Is suspect the reason is so you don't just install them according to the zone without considering what is happening in the room and the consequences of them tripping.

  • The consequence of unwanted tripping outweigh any potential benefit - Also AFDDs should not be put on Medical IT circuits.
