Generator powered installation within a house with mains supply?

I have been asked to advise on if it is possible to use a generator to power a small temporary installation within a building with mains supply. The temporary installation would be isolated from the mains supply via use of safe distance and physical barriers. There would be no possibility of equipment being plugged into both power supplies. Does anyone have any advice on this?

  • no real need to blank off the house sockets so long as you can ensure the earth potentials are tied together, no worse than single phase sockets fed from more than one phase side by side then, perfectly acceptable since the mid 1960s -  I presume the genset is diesel and outside, so will need earthing to something solid anyway.

  • Temporary installation would be insulated through distribution equipment to the diesel generator earthed outside the building yes.
