Horstmann Radio Telemeter Series 2A - Excessive Readings and Incorrect Date

Hello -

Is anyone aware of a known issues with Horstmann Radio Telemeter Series 2A meters?

I've got one which is +25 years old and

1. is showing the year component of the date as 1994,

2. giving readings of +500kWh per day, and

3. the Aux light is flashing continuously.

I have been battling with the supplier SSE for over a year to get this meter checked out and/or replaced but have been told that this isn't a priority. I'd be interest to know if there are others with similar issues with this meter type given its age?

  • Given that the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) is supposed to finally be shut down on 31 March 2023, I would have thought replacement of a meter relying on the RTS for correct operation would have been a bit more of a priority?

My distribution network operator (DNO) recently replaced a faulty radio teleswitch for me and it was replaced with an electromechanical timeclock for that reason.

Are you sure that the Horstmann Radio Telemeter Series 2A is actually in use? Are there any other meters located alongside it?

What is happening with billing, if the meter is reading > 500 kWh per day?
