5 core - shared CPC

Hi,

Any issues with a 5 core 2.5mm with a shared CPC between 2 separate final circuits.

The 5 core ands into a junction box feeding 2 separate radial circuits for sockets.

Core 1 = Live c1

Core 2 = Neutral c1

Core 3 = Live c2

Core 4 = Neutral c2

Core 5 = CPC for both C1 and C2

Thanks.

  • In principle there's no problem - it's the same situation as where steel conduit is used as the c.p.c.. In practice, a bit of extra care is needed - e.g. so that the c.p.c. of a live circuit isn't disconnected when working on the other one, so a label or two might be useful (if not a direct regs requirement).

  • As I thought, thanks.

  • All sounds OK to me (AJJ makes some sensible recommendations).

Think of it this way - if you took your 5 core (flex/solid/SWA etc) to a housing - example a "Gewis Box" with connectors inside then took your circuit 1 and circuit 2 connections plus earth connections from the 5 terminals then that would be the same as done in a dist board etc.

So, no , no issues, but clear marking to help avoid future disconnections etc would be a good thing to do
