Seagulls

Hi all,

I have a site where seagulls are a known issue in an area that cannot be avoided. This might sound silly but would anyone care to guide on how small/deep a hole needs to be to be seagull-proof (the avian equivalent of IP2X, if you like)?

My currrent thinking is to avoid forming areas where nesting material can build up and run all exposed unarmoured cabling in steel trunking / lidded trays. I believe the armour will be sufficient defence where SWA is being used. Am I over/under-thinking?

  • Seagulls? Used to be my favourite bird until one stole my ice cream on the pier at Hastings! AL2 according to appendix  5 BSEN 60721-3-3, class 3B2 BS EN 60721-3-4, class 4B2.

I know seagulls can be miles inland but if beside the sea, not sure about the galvanised trunking etc.
I noticed that the seagull scare system at Southampton PO Cruise Terminal, loud as it is, seems to be having little affect. Loads of guano over the PV panels.
