Smoke Fans - Life Safety

Hi all,

We have been given a design where a mechanical control panel is supplied by an ATS. This panel is a life safety panel and has a number of fans connected to it. Some of the fans are sited in the same room as the panel and some in a room remote from the room where the panel is sited.

My understanding is that this is not compliant with BS 8519. The life safety equipment needs to be in the same room as the ATS it is being supplied from. On the other hand if these fans are not essential for life safety (unlikely - will ask the designer) can you have life safety and non life safety on a life safety panel?

  • The fans can be in a different room to the panel, but not in a different fire compartment. You need to refer to the fire strategy drawings to check the fire compartmentation of the building

    regards, burn
