Metal / Plastic Distribution System

Hi Everyone

A question has just come up during Test & Inspect..

I work within TV  and we have installed a few custom built distribution boxes

https://www.ilme.com/en/view-product/?code=FM+3251+PI&country=uk&origin=uk

These are fitted with 16A and 32A sockets via the appropriate RCBO's etc etc

But the question is

The regs still state that consumer units need to be metal or non combustible...  Would the boxes above be ok  as they are plastic?

  • Unless you are installing them as consumer units within domestic premises, then the reg you are worrying about does not apply - and if you did, they could be used within a suitable outer enclosure.

Looking at the link, I assume these are for commercial/trade use and not going in cupboards under the stairs.... they do look  more like festival/ event type devices where the risks from getting wet or  loss of earth, outweigh the one about long term overheating and fires.

    Mike.
