Fire Curtains - Power Supply Cable

Good afternoon

A quick question to anyone who know

Does the cable supplying the fire curtain control panel need to be fire rated?

Is the answere dependent on whether the fire curtain control panel included battery backup or not?

Excuse my ignorance

I have searched a lot before coming here to post however I couldnt find an answer.

Thanks

  • BS8519: 2020 requires smoke control curtains (which I presume is also what you mean by "fire curtain") to be Category 2: -

    2) Category 2: means of escape (60 min fire survival time); category 2 cables should be one of
    the following:
    • power cables meeting the 60 min survival time when tested in accordance with BS 8491; or
    • control cables having a fire survival time of 60 min when tested in accordance with
BS EN 50200:2015, and the 120 min survival time when tested in accordance with
BS 8434‑2 (core sizes up to and including 4 mm2 cross-sectional area), excluding 3-phase
    power circuits.
