Should EICR (Electrical Instalation Condition Report) be stored nationally or locally in a digital format in a similar way to an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate)?

This would allow for people and companies to look up the information rather than it being hidden away.  Knowledable people could then have a chance to look at the results or at the previous results to make comparisons and have some historical imformation on the site.  Furthermore it would allow for the information to be checked at a later date should the requirement arise.  (Grenfell Tower inquiry is a casing point)  It has come to light that some of the EICR may not be wholly accurate.

  • Could be an office not just a home.  Could be a block of flats or a school.  Remember that BS7671 first edition was also know by another name but it was principally brought into effect because insurance companies were not happy about paying out for fire damage possibly cause by an electrical install with possibly bad craftmanship/workmanship.

  • You do not need to be a CPS member to do EICRs of course. Arguably you should be able to pass the C and G inspection and test, but even a lot of CPS registered folk in the field have not.

And it is very hard to point to a non-accident and say 'saved by an EICR' so hard.I fear there are no real examples.

You require AC to be able to EICR under a certification body.

anyone can fill out a model form and do an EICR but it will not be certificated under CPS as was  stated.

    me personally, I don’t care.

  • What insurance that a homeowner pays requires an EICR?

None yet.  But if there's a database of EICRs, and it's made available to insurers, then I would expect them to ask for an EICR.  Otherwise, what's the point of the database?

    I agree.

it would also highlight safety issues that are unseen.

whether you would police this properly is another thing.

I would have a completely independent assessment that specifically dealt with domestic EICRs and was an authority and not a certification body

    That is a valid point
