Are the IET restricting electrical contractors

The IET define the EAS. As I have observed they have removed the competent person from Sept 21 from being acceptable with just an 18th edition qualification.

Now they have removed that and the acceptable verification for this level is beyond what most 48 year old plus contractors have. 

there are contractors out there who have experience and older quals (anyone who says grandad rights is in bed with these lot) who can no longer be a QS should they lose them, forcing them to employ people who aren’t really QS level but satisfy EAS set out by IET.

From my experience in assessing tue EAS, this is a money making agenda.

IET is restricting the electrical contract industry to make money.

    I qualified early 1980's pre AM2.

    I served an indentured apprenticeship with the then North Western Electricity Board (NORWEB). It was wonderful and the Daniel training ctr at Chorley enabled a full spectrum of skills to be developed.

    Now close to 40 years ago and I do not have the 'letter' I am told I would have been given (and vaguely recall).

    NORWEB (Electricity North West as they now are) have confirmed they have destroyed all records from that time. I have the 2361 and the 2362 and over the years have kept 'up to-date' having currently the 2382 -22 and the 2391-52. March 2024 I am sitting the 2396

    I am grateful to City & Guilds for retaining such records and issuing duplicate certificates.

    I am 59 years old and currently despite a wealth of experience and knowledge I cannot work on certain sites because the EAS  'Computer says NO' and so no certification.

    C & G have confirmed that the 2362 did include end point assessments and would only have been sat as part of an indentured apprenticeship. NORWEB have confirmed the qualifcation would have without doubt been part of an indentured apprenticeship.

    No fast track pay it yourself scheme back then - thankfully - and as such the quality came through that a full apprenticeship bestowed.

    I have asked for this to be looked at on its merits against the facts known all without reply.

    It was a different system back then so much so, out of interest in the response, I have asked EAS to confirm what 'completed proof of apprenticeship would have been' A diploma they say... Electricity North West Training academy say NO, it would have been a letter. Admin error somewhere because of a different world simply not understood.

    Who would have thought as a young man starting on a journey that a letter would be needed some 40 years on to prove what then all knew.

    I have completed an apprenticeship,  I have the level 3 qualifications and look to keep them updated. Yet I cannot still work on many sites because I cannot receive an accreditation. The system cannot have been set up for that end as such it is flawed and needs urgent review.

    Yes I see the need for CPD, Damn I spend most days looking to learn something new in my field, and that is more than watch a video and claim a point of CPD! Yet I will not deny and state I did not serve an apprenticeship as ECS have requested me to do in order to make it easier for their admin system to process my application!

    It has cost me work. It is truly upsetting and frustrating been cast aside like this, maybe I should settle into design and then see if I can walk on site to verify!

    I guess this issue will in 10 years or so resolve itself as those folk who were are no more. That would seem to be how the system is working

    Did you have a JIB Gold card back in the day? If so the JIB can dig back through their records and will re-issue it.

    I guess you don't need one until you need one and without proof of apprenticeship by way of letter issued at the time etc I cannot get one. 

    The frustration is the acknowledgement by all that the qualification MUST have been with an indentured apprenticeship yet ECS and such need to see proof of that apprenticeship... even though they say there would have been an apprenticeship. And so the circle goes. 

    When I first contacted Electricity North West it was under the belief they would be able to provide a statement I did not know they had lost all records. Like I said ECS and the other schemes will be able to put this all to bed in ~10 years from now
