Are the IET restricting electrical contractors

The IET define the EAS. As I have observed they have removed the competent person from Sept 21 from being acceptable with just an 18th edition qualification.

Now they have removed that and the acceptable verification for this level is beyond what most 48 year old plus contractors have.

there are contractors out there who have experience and older quals (anyone who says grandad rights is in bed with these lot) who can no longer be a QS should they lose them, forcing them to employ people who aren’t really QS level but satisfy EAS set out by IET.

From my experience in assessing tue EAS, this is a money making agenda.

IET is restricting the electrical contract industry to make money.

  • The IET, NICEIC, NAPIT etc have to finance their development and innovation so of course they need to raise money through us. Are they behind the drive promoting all the latest technology and so called Smart systems, yes they are. Ultimately it is the choice of the general public if the equipment and devices concerned are adopted or not and whether the training required to install it becomes more mainstream, it's all to do with climate change PLC.

Maybe if people were more inclined to not buy a power consuming gadget (that usually fails prematurely) and switch off equipment went not in use, that in itself would lessen our impact on the environment, certainly if all the useless manufactured junk was outlawed, if this does not happen soon we will all be living in a junk yard.

  • I agree we should think twice before buying every new power-hungry gadget that comes out and maybe we should turn off our equipment when we don’t need it, and save some energy and money. Maybe we should stop producing and consuming so much useless junk that ends up in the landfill. If we don’t, we might end up living in a world like the one in the movie WALL-E, where humans are obese and lazy, and the Earth is covered in trash. Is that what we want?
