EICR Coding for main isolating switch

What would the code be for an isolator switch of a distribution board not having any indication of its position(on or off)?

There are two distribution boards at the origin, one is off when down, the other is off when up. One isn't labelled or marked any way.

Also, would you code for no single point of isolation for the whole installation?

  • Of course it would be easiest to mark them up, but it's one of many many non compliances. They just want the report for now. If a main isolator switch on a DB is classed as an emergency switch, then that's where I was wondering if it's more than a C3, in addition to the possible confusion with it switching the opposite way to the other DB.

  • Would you classify the main switch on a DB as an emergency switch ?  The main switch is an isolator that I evaluate during an EICR based on the following criteria in part 9 (7.1):

    • Presence and condition of appropriate devices (462; 537.2)
    • Acceptable location - state if local or remote from equipment in question (462; 537.2.7)
    • Ability to be secured in the OFF position (462.3)
    • Correct operation verified (643.10)
    • Clear identification by position and / or durable marking (537.2.7)
    • Warning label posted in situations where live parts cannot be isolated by the operation of a single device (514.11.1; 537.1.2).

When it comes to The emergency switching off (7.3) a device that can control the supply to circuits or equipment to remove a danger that has occurred unexpectedly. I am mainly concerned with emergency stop buttons. As per Guidance notes 2, some examples of emergency switching are:

    • activating extraction plant or
    • instigating the release of extinguishing agents

Hence, I would inspect the following aspects for the emergency switching off:

    • Presence and condition of appropriate devices (465; 537.3.3; 537.4)
    • Readily accessible for operation where danger might occur (537.3.3.6)
    • Correct operation verified (643.10)
    • Clear identification by position and / or durable marking (537.3.3.5; 537.3.3.6; 537.4.3; 537.4.4)
