What is an 'SCAL-CU' cable?

Hello,

Looking over some old drawings for a project, and note that there is a cable type designated as 'SCAL-CU'.

Does anyone know what that is?

It is listed as 7x 300 SCAL-CU for the incoming cables to a 2000A rated switchboard.

Obviously the CU is for copper, but what does the SCAL bit mean?

Thanks.

  • It’s a concentric cable that has a lone layer of aluminium wires as the concentric conductor, and copper wires as the principal conductor. The cable in question has a nominal voltage rating of 0.6/1 kV, and the current rating is 630 A. Single concentric (SC) aluminium (AL) copper (CU)
