18th edition and portable lights

Please help!

Is there any statement in the 18th edition or other UK regulations prohibiting the use of portable lighting or portable battery packs in event venues? Our events company claims they are not allowed inline with the IET & 18th edition, but I can't find this information anywhere, and it seems like they are saying this to encourage us to use their lighting, which would incur a cost.
